Half IRONMAN distance (70.3)

• Swim: 1.9 km (1.2 mi)
• Bike: 90 km (56 mi)
• Run: 21.1 km (13.1 mi)
• Total: 113 km (70.3 mi)

IRONMAN 70.3 races usually set an overall cut-off of 8 h 30 min. Each race page gives the limit published by its organiser.

Organisers round to their own course: a race listed at this distance may swim or ride a little more or less. Each race page gives the exact kilometres. This guide covers the 70.3 only: the IRONMAN distance guide covers the full distance, and the triathlon distances guide compares every format, from sprint to full.

Swim, 1.9 km (1.2 mi). About 76 lengths of a 25 m pool, swum in open water. Of the 167 races, 71 swim in the sea or the ocean, 73 in a lake or a reservoir, 20 in a river and 3 in a canal. The median water temperature is 21 °C.

Bike, 90 km (56 mi). 53 races describe the course as flat. Where a gain is published, it runs from 22 m to 2700 m, with a median of 609 m.

Run, 21.1 km (13.1 mi). A half marathon. The median published gain is 103 m.

Some circuits use a shorter long-course format: 2 km of swimming, 80 km on the bike and 18 km of running. 20 races on the site are held over it, among them 10 in the Challenge Family circuit and 8 in the T100 series.
