Edition history

How the day is laid out

The swim is held in a lake. An average of 21 °C is close to the threshold where wetsuit rules start to tighten. Plan for both answers and check the call on race morning.

The bike leg is labelled rolling. It climbs about 500 m.

The run is labelled flat.

A rolling bike ahead of a flat run keeps the climbing on the bike and lets the run settle into a rhythm.

Expect air between 15 °C and 33 °C on race day. A spread of 18 degrees across the day matters as much as the peak, because what you wear at the swim exit is rarely what you want at the far end of the bike.

What the course page adds

The swim and the first transition are not in the city. Athletes swim one loop of the Ulibarri-Gamboa reservoir, known locally as Landa, and T1 sits in the Landa Provincial Park, 20 km from the centre of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The bike is a single 90 km loop through the Álava countryside back to town. The run is two loops in central Vitoria-Gasteiz, finishing in Plaza España. Plan bike check-in and the trip to the start with two separate sites in mind.
