How the day is laid out

The swim is held in a river. An average of 22 °C is close to the threshold where wetsuit rules start to tighten. Plan for both answers and check the call on race morning.

The bike leg is labelled hilly.

The run is labelled flat.

A hilly bike ahead of a flat run puts the day's decision early: what you spend on the climbs is what the run will not have.

Expect air between 11 °C and 25 °C on race day. A spread of 14 degrees across the day matters as much as the peak, because what you wear at the swim exit is rarely what you want at the far end of the bike.

Cut-offs and the climb to La Guillermie

The swim is a single 3.8 km loop in the Allier, with a cut-off of 2 h 20. Swim, T1 and bike must be done within 10 h 30, with clock-time checks at km 61 (12.30 pm) and km 107 (2.40 pm).

The bike crosses the Limagne plain, then climbs steadily to La Guillermie and through the hills between Lapalisse and Châtel-Montagne before returning along the Sichon. The organiser warns that the first 2.5 km along the lake can be slippery in the wet, and notes that the published elevation gain is an estimate. It gives no measured water temperature for recent editions.
